IFPAS enters Singapore Book of Records for most number of LPA certifications in a day
The Insurance and Financial Practitioners Association of Singapore (IFPAS) is celebrating an extraordinary milestone this year—55 years of dedicated service to the financial industry and the community. In commemoration of this anniversary, IFPAS generously sponsored a series of Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) webinars and certifications from December 2023 to August 2024.
The LPA is a legal document and a deed, which allows a person who is at least 21 years of age (‘Donor’), to voluntarily appoint one or more persons (‘Donee(s)’) to make decisions and act on his/her behalf if he/she loses mental capacity one day. A Donee can be appointed to act in the two broad areas of personal welfare and/or property & affairs matters. The LPA also gives the authority to the Donee to sign deeds on the Donor’s behalf. IFPAS partnered up with LPA experts and certified issuers from Emre Legal and Keystone Medical, as well as enlisted the support of dedicated LPA Ambassadors/Volunteers who are also financial practitioners and IFPAS members, to provide guidance for potential LPA donors every step of the way.
Overall, the program which educated the public on the importance of appointing a trusted individual to make decisions on their behalf in the event of mental incapacity, attracted more than 6,000 participants to its webinars and dialogues, and garnered the support of over 400 ambassadors.
The initiative culminated in the IFPAS LPA Mega Event on 18 August 2024, marking the conclusion of the LPA Certification Sponsorship program. On the day, IFPAS set a new record in the Singapore Book of Records for the most number of LPA certifications in a day, with an impressive 1,113 LPAs certified at Toa Payoh West CC, under the supervision of doctors and lawyers. This brought the total number of LPAs arranged by IFPAS to an outstanding 3,472.
Since its founding in 1969, IFPAS has been representing the interest of Financial Practitioners on legislative, regulatory and policy-related matters. It has been proactively raising the industry’s credibility and public profile. It does this by providing continuous professional skills development, promoting ethical standards among its members, and developing community outreach activities to further the financial literacy of the marginalised communities in Singapore.
