Singapore Management Awards 2026 Celebrates Leadership Excellence
The Singapore Management Awards 2026 brought together leaders from Singapore’s financial services profession to celebrate achievement, leadership and excellence. Beyond the awards themselves, the evening also highlighted an important question: what should leadership mean for the future of the profession?
The Singapore Management Awards (SMA) 2026 recognised outstanding agency leaders across Singapore’s financial services profession, while putting the spotlight on professionalism, people development and the responsibilities that come with leadership.
Organised by the Financial Services Managers’ Association (FSMA), the awards brought together leaders and representatives from Singapore’s financial services profession at Shangri-La Singapore.
While many achievements were celebrated, some of the evening’s most significant recognition went to leaders who had demonstrated sustained excellence over many years.
SMA Senior Master Recipients
The SMA Senior Master Recipient is a one-time recognition for agency leaders who have achieved a minimum of 20 SMA Management for Excellence Awards (MEA).
Two leaders received this recognition at SMA 2026:

Achieving one award is an accomplishment. Achieving at least 20 reflects a different dimension of success: sustained performance and leadership over time
SMA Master Recipients
The SMA Master Recipient is a one-time recognition for agency leaders who have achieved a minimum of 10 SMA Management for Excellence Awards (MEA).

Together, the SMA Senior Master and SMA Master recognitions highlighted an important dimension of the evening: recognising not only achievement, but also the ability to sustain a high level of performance over time.
Recognising Leadership Excellence
SMA 2026 also recognised outstanding performers through its Top Awards.
Top Group Agency Directors

Top Agency Leaders

Top Rookie Managers

These recognitions sat alongside the broader Management for Excellence Awards (MEA), which span Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze categories.
Beyond recognising individual achievement, however, the speeches that evening turned attention towards a bigger question: what should leadership in financial services stand for?
Raising the Profession Together
In his opening address, FSMA President Royce Goh spoke about the gap between the work carried out by good financial advisors and how the profession can sometimes be perceived.
He highlighted the work of practitioners who support families through difficult conversations, help business owners protect what they have built and do right by clients, often without recognition.
For Mr Goh, changing the industry’s standing requires more than the efforts of one organisation. It requires the profession to work together to raise standards, improve awareness of what good advice looks like and strengthen the profile of financial services for the next generation.
Not just celebrating individual excellence, but reminding ourselves that our collective strength is what moves this entire industry forward.
That message captures one of the broader themes of SMA 2026: excellence is not only about individual achievement, but also about strengthening the profession as a whole.
Remembering Those Who Stood Up for the Profession
Mr Goh also reflected on an earlier chapter in the profession’s history, referring to the STAR Team, a group of industry members who stood up for the profession close to two decades ago amid discussions around issues including fair dealing and fee-based advice.
He acknowledged Chan Keng Leong and FSMA honorary member Dennis Tan, who were present at the event, together with Leong Sow Hoe, Michael Seow and Frank Ng, who were unable to attend.
Their example reinforced Mr Goh’s message about the importance of collective strength within the profession.
The Leadership Tension: Gatekeeper and Producer
SMA 2026 Chairperson Benjamin Ng approached leadership from another perspective, highlighting the tension faced by those responsible for leading financial advisors.
On one side, leaders have to act as gatekeepers. They are responsible for stopping shortcuts, inappropriate recommendations and behaviour that places production ahead of the client’s interests.
Much of this responsibility goes unseen.
Nobody claps when a bad practice gets stopped before it starts.
At the same time, leaders are responsible for growth, building capable teams and creating businesses in which their advisors can thrive.
As Mr Ng put it:
We cannot gatekeep our way to a strong industry. We have to build it too.
The challenge is to pursue growth without compromising the trust on which the profession depends.
Developing Better Advisors
For Mr Ng, the bridge between these responsibilities is the development of people.
Rather than viewing training primarily as a regulatory requirement, development should equip advisors with the judgement, skills and confidence to pursue growth in the right way.
Training is not a compliance checkbox.
A well-trained advisor should require less intervention because professional standards have become part of how that person thinks and works. A well-developed advisor should also have the skills and confidence to pursue growth in the right way.
Mr Ng went further in defining what leadership should ultimately produce:
That is the real measure of leadership in this business. Not how many advisors we recruit, but how many we develop into people who protect the client instinctively, because it has been built into how they think and how they work.
Beyond the Awards
His message was ultimately about what leaders leave behind in the people they develop.
Recruitment matters. Production matters. Growth matters.
But the longer-term test of leadership is also what happens to the people who enter the profession under a leader’s watch.
Do they become more competent?
Do they develop better judgement?
Do they learn to put clients first because it has become part of how they practise, rather than simply because a rule requires it?
And, eventually, can they develop others to do the same?
There was something fitting about these messages being delivered on a night when the profession was recognising leaders who had demonstrated excellence repeatedly over many years.
An award recognises achievement at a point in time. The SMA Master Recipient and SMA Senior Master Recipient recognitions tell a longer story — one of consistency and sustained performance.
But the speeches also pointed towards what comes next.
The advisors being recruited, trained, coached and developed today will shape how clients experience financial advice tomorrow. People development is therefore more than an organisational priority; it is part of how the profession strengthens standards, builds trust and prepares its next generation.
SMA 2026 celebrated leaders who have demonstrated excellence and sustained performance. But the messages shared on the evening pointed to an even bigger responsibility: developing people who can carry those standards forward. For the financial services profession, leadership is not only about what is achieved today, but also about the people and standards leaders leave behind for tomorrow.
