Hotel Booking Transfer Scam Alert
With the school holidays in full swing and staycation a popular option for many families, be alert of this scam to avoid becoming a victim and losing your hard-earned money!
This has been shared in some groups to warn others. We’re sharing it here to raise awareness. Exercise your good judgement.
Here’s how it works and why victims fall for it.
The Scam Offer
The hotel booking scam offer comes in the form of these variations:
“I’ve booked the hotel room….”
“It was a gift….”
“It was a reward redemption…”

BUT…. “Now I can’t make it.”
Offer: You just need to pay me a token $50/$100 to take over.
To make it more convincing, they may even offer to break up the $100 payment into two – upfront and only after you check in.

The Clever Bit
The clever part of this scam and why people may fall for it. A “transfer” does actually take place! Which makes it look legitimate.
BUT… the transfer is actually of the BOOKING.
The payment of the hotel has NOT been settled.

As always, do your own due diligence. Exercise your good judgement.
